Cut Flowers at St. Augustine Cathedral

Yesterday October 30, 2014 5:00PM PST (Philippine Standard Time), hubby and I decided to purchase the flowers we plan to bring to our loved ones graves on November 1. We purposely visit and bought the flowers early because as much as possible we wanted to stay away from the crowd. And buying the flowers a day before or on November 1 will definitely have an increase in prices.

As expected, the areas in front the St. Augustine Cathedral, where most of the local flower shops are located were still very peaceful with just a few customers dropping by, though the florists had been already busy arranging the flowers they are going to sell. Today or tomorrow will be different, the place will surely be full packed with people.

In my case, I wanted to buy the flowers, the floral foams, etc. and do the arrangement myself than have it done in the flower shop because I’m sure it’s very expensive especially this time of the year.

Going from one shop to another, I settled at Torralba’s because so far this seller already has a lot of chrysanthemums on display. Though, there are a lot of flowers available like Anthurium, calla lilies, roses, gladiolas, etc. I chose mums with variety of colors because I wanted something vibrant for my little angel, and for my parents-in-law which we are visiting in Bukidnon as well.

While Manong is selecting assorted mums for me, I busied myself looking and taking photos of the flowers. I wished I brought my DSLR with me, but sadly I only have my smartphone.

A stalk of mums was priced at P25.00, like the usual selling price during ordinary days (no price increase yet). I ordered one dozen of assorted mums, P50 worth of baby’s breath flowers, and 3 floral foams (P50 each), + the very nice owner (I think) who was busy arranging flowers told the Manong to give me additional 2 stalks.   Whee! Thanks you!

This afternoon, after office (it was declared a half day holiday today) I’m going to do the flower arrangement, hoping I can come up with something lovely. So bye for now... We’ll post the arrangement later...
