Pink and Purple Spring Flowers

  January Zelene       1:04 AM       China , Close Up Shots , Flower 101 , Shanghai , Spring Flowers , Today's Flower       8 comments

Because some of our colleagues were not done with shopping for their families "pasalubong" yet, we went to the nearest shopping mall where we stayed in Shanghai, China.

There are some shops that sell branded items at a lower price compared here in the Philippines but most of the items that I have known have almost the same price or more expensive than those we have here. So instead, I just roamed around and later went to our meeting place.

While waiting for the rest, I took some photos of beautiful flowers in the planters along the coffee shop nearby. Because the colors were so vibrant in pink and purple, I did not hesitate taking some snaps using my Galaxy  Note 3 smartphone.

And in the end, I went home from the mall not empty-handed at all.

Spring Flowers near Oriental Pearl Tower

January Zelene       1:12 AM       China , Monday Mellow Yellows , Oriental Pearl Tower , Shanghai , Spring Flowers , Today's Flower , Travel , Travel Destination       9 comments

It was the beginning of spring when we went to Shanghai, China. Spring flowers bloom not only in Nanjing Road, but in most of the side streets where planters are located. The entire city must be blossoming with different flowers with striking colors at the peak of Spring, how I wished I had stayed longer to see them.

Spring Flowers in Nanjing Road Shanghai China

  January Zelene       7:35 PM       China , Flower 101 , Nanjing Road , Shanghai , Spring Flowers , Today's Flower , Travel , Travel Destination       18 comments

My series of China trip blog posts is not over yet, I still have a few more to write about. Even now I'm still grateful and blessed to be selected to attend a work related training in China and experience travel abroad for free.

I realized it was already spring in China when we got there, because of these beautiful blooms you can almost anywhere in Shanghai. If I was able to catch a few of the cherry blossoms in the city of Nanjing, here in Nanjing Road in Shanghai these spring flowers were flourishing.

Some Hybrid Adeniums at Sarangani Highlands

January Zelene       7:46 AM       Close Up Shots , Flower 101 , General Santos City , I Heart Macro , Macro Monday , Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Sample Photos , Today's Flower       12 comments

Adenium, Impala Lily, Dessert Rose or locally known as Bangkok Kalachuchi from the family Apocynaceae is one common houseplant that produces beautiful blooms. It can live for years and is a favorite plant subject of bonsai enthusiasts. My mom actually made a few in the past, and are now residing in my big brothers home.

I have only seen the white and the more common pink dessert roses in my 36 years of existence until last week that I've seen 3 more of its variants personally. These variants are what we called the hybrids, cultivated to produce more distinct colors.
Blooming brilliantly in Sarangani Highlands, General Santos City are the following;

Golden to pale yellow from inner throat to outward petals with uneven specks of pink.

The Cherry Blossoms in Nanjing, China

Later did I realized that these flowers blooming inside the institute’s compound were actually some variety of the beautiful cherry blossoms.

I took some photos, using only my point and shoot camera, from the pathway.  As much as I want to get nearer and reach out for these almost fuchsia flowers, but can't because the cherry trees were taller than what my maximum reach.

Kanzan

The same with this multi-petal Sakura also known as Kanzan, was also taken from a distance using the 18x capability of my smart camera.

Early morning of November 1, 2013, we went to visit our Angel's resting place, offered flowers, candle, prayers and our unending love to our little girl that we never got a chance to see alive and moving. She was choosen by our Almighty God to be one of his angels even before she was born.

She is up there for than a year now watching over us everyday.

I believe in pink. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles.

Yellow-Pinkish Spathoglottis Plicata

January Zelene       9:47 PM       Close Up Shots , Flower 101 , Ground Orchid , Macro Monday , Monday Mellow Yellows , Today's Flower       20 comments

Spathoglottis Plicata also commonly known as Philippine Ground Orchid is terrestrial and perennial plant that are native to Southeast Asia.

The non-fragrant flowers can reach the size up to 4cm. Since it is a tropical orchid it requires warm - hot, humid climate and is best cultivated in full sun to partial shade.

But because of climate change, where in the sun is so hot most of the day in the Philippines it is better to grow these pretties in a partial shade areas.

These flowers are very abundant in Davao City, in fact this branch of yellow Vanda orchid was photographed in one fine morning while having breakfast at Grand Regal Hotel, Davao City.

They used the flower as an ornament in every dining table.

“Each violet peeps from its dwelling to gaze at the bright stars above”
 ~Heinrich Heine~

I saw this violet flower at one of the gardens that sell plants in Bulua West Bound Terminal, Cagayan de Oro City. I wonder what it's called, I asked the young girl who sells this pretty flower, but unfortunately she don't know either.

Unique isn't she? I hope I was able to capture her nicely even using only my smartphone. :)

Mums + Recycled Flower Pots

January Zelene       6:20 AM       Blue Monday , Flower 101 , Macro Monday , Monday Mellow Yellows , Mums , Recycle Pots , Recycling , Today's Flower       18 comments

Remember my trip last week at Lim Ket Kai Mall, Plants and Flowers Garden Display Area wherein I bought flowering plants like Lilium Stargazers, Gerberas and Mums? So far after a week, they are still alive and flourishing especially the Mums.

I actually bought 4 different colors of mums at P75.00 ($1.75) per pot. There were a lot of colors available for sale but I chose only four, the most I can afford and these were;

of Orange or Rust and Yellow Shade

Bright Yellow

Lilac/Lavender Shade

and Red Maroon

Hubby and I replanted them in another container. Instead of buying plastic pots we decided to recycle empty plastic water bottles. We have a lot of them at home because these were the used purified drinking water  bottles that our son had consumed.

Hubby cut the lower portion of the bottle (above the first ring) using scissors then bored holes at the bottom.

This is how the empty recycled pot looks like...

Recycled pot with garden soil...

And finally the replanted mums in the recycled plastic pots.

Instead of throwing them away, these empty bottles were put into good use.

The Lilium Stargazers

  January Zelene       9:46 PM       Flower 101 , Gardening , Lilium Stargazer , Macro Monday , Samsung S2 Photos , Seedlings , Today's Flower       9 comments

Yesterday I got to meet these lovelies at Lim Ket Kai, where plants and flowers are displayed and for sale as part of the Cagayan de Oro City Fiesta Celebration on August 28. Hubby and I happened to passed by at the area after my appointment with the doctor and saw a lot of beautiful flowering plants displayed including gerberas, orchids, mums and pretty large blooms of stargazers. Accordingly, most of the flower plants on sale came from Davao City.

Lilium Stargazer is a hybrid Oriental Lily and are known for its fragrance. Stargazer was created in 1974 by by Leslie Woodriff, a lily breeder in California. This cross breed lily was named Stargazer because the bloom faces toward the sky.

Stargazers are available in pink and white, white and yellow colors. I only saw two colors yesterday but the vendor told me that there were yellows but were already sold out.

I wanted to buy the full grown plant with blooms but it cost about P350 (approx. $8.0) per plant, too expensive for me. So I settled getting the seedlings instead at P75 (approx. $1.7) each.

I bought the pink and white, white and yellow seedlings and hoping to grow it well and soon watch them bloom in my front yard.

Peach to Pink Flower

January Zelene       6:18 AM       Flower 101 , Monday Mellow Yellows , Today's Flower       8 comments

Brought these flowering plant from Bukidnon last March. I do not know how her name, but the blooms are considerably pretty. I thought it will not survive in the extreme heat of the city, but it did as long as I maintained her place in a shady area in our front yard.

If anyone knows her, I hope you'll let me know.  For now I'll call her the "peach to pink flower", because the petals are of shade near to peach and light pink.

I had another encounter with gerbera daisies two weeks ago at Rustan's Supermarket. I'm glad I had my smartphone with me all the time, I can take pictures anytime, anywhere as long as I had it fully charged. :)

Gerbera daisies are beautiful flowers that I really come to love.

Red Bird of Paradise

Caesalpinia pulcherrima is a shrub that belongs in the pea family that usually grows up to 3 meter long. This flowering plant is also known as ponciana, red bird of paradise, peacock flower, etc. and is the national flower of the Caribbean island Barbados.

Nobody can really tell the origin of this plant because it is widely cultivated across the globe. Here in the Philippines you can see these orange and yellow blooms just anywhere.
