The Papaya Trees

The first papaya tree we have planted in our front yard few months back is continuously flowering but had never given us any fruit until now.

Accordingly, papaya trees can either be a male, a female or a bisexual. Bisexual or hermaphrodite that have both ovary and stamen and are self-fertile. They can produce fruits without the need of a male plant.
 

On the other hand, the female papaya ovary flower must receive pollen from a male or hermaphrodite papaya plant either carried by wind or insect. When pollination took place the ovary of female flower will swell up and will become fruit. When no pollination had occur the small fruit will then be aborted from the plant.

I believe the first papaya tree we had is a female plant because it has large single bloom flower with short stalks which is the characteristics of a female papaya. Male papayas has long thin stalks with slender flowers just like the picture below.

Now the problem is where are we going to find a male papaya tree or a hermaphrodite, so that pollination may take place?

The second plant we had is also a female because it has the same flower as the first one.

I don't know if the 3rd plant which is still around 2 feet tall will be a male or a hermaphrodite.

I hope it will be hermaphrodite so that we can finally have the fruits that we are waiting for so long to harvest.

Autumn Like

In the Philippines we only have two seasons, the dry and the rainy season unlike in other countries that have four temperature seasons. At this time of the year other countries experience Autumn (Fall), it is the season that marks the season transition from summer to winter.

Here in our place there is also an autumn like season I supposed, because near our office the leaves of the huge banyan tree or locally known as the balete tree had fallen from its branches.The scene is really an autumn like, maybe a foreign "not like us beings" live inside the tree. lol..

Hanging Yellow Flowers

I've seen these flowers hanging on a tree at the back of our office cafeteria, at first I thought it was an artificial flower intentionally hanged there but when I looked closer, I found out that this tree that I do not know the name was blossoming with beautiful yellow flowers.

I was so unlucky because my DSLR was not with me. The photos below were the best snaps that I had using only my mobile phone.

Are these Cherry Blossoms?

Somewhere in Misamis Oriental there were trees lined along the highway. And these trees were blooming with pink bell-like flowers. We pulled over to take some photos but not so lucky to encounter someone whom I could ask about these lovely flowering trees. I wonder if these are cherry blossoms. Could be, what do you think?
