Cagayan de Oro: Marco Hotel Vacation

January Zelene       7:09 PM       cagayan de oro city , Friends , Marco Hotel , Outdoor Wednesday , Swimming Pool , Watery Wednesday       22 comments

My last day of work for CY 2009 ended yesterday, and as expected I had a very heavy fully loaded day. Thank God I'm done with it and now I'm re-conditioning myself for the coming year. Ready to face my day job, the job that I loved most.

And today Wednesday the last Wednesday of 2009, I'm here in front of my laptop at home browsing the net, playing farmville and farmtown on facebook, enjoying the holiday. Tomorrow I'll be signing out from blogging for a while because my hubby and I will celebrate New Year with his parents @ Bukidnon. I'm excited because it will be our first road trip to Bukidnon, I just hope we can stop by whenever there are views that need to be photographed. I just hope so. lol

Meanwhile I'll be sharing my Watery Wednesday and Outdoor Wednesday for today.

The photo was taken at Marco Hotel in Cagayan de Oro City we had our 2009 Christmas outing on December 20-21, 2009.

And this is the gang of professionals just enjoying the holidays!

Happy Watery Wednesday & Outdoor Wednesday!

Happy New Year Everyone!

Zamboanga City: The Four Century Old Fort Pilar

January Zelene       8:21 PM       My World on Tuesday , photography , Structure and Architecture , Zamboanga City       9 comments

In Spanish, the Fort Pilar of Zamboanga City is called El Real Fuerza de Nuestra Señora del Pilar de Zaragoza is a military defense fortress built on 17th century Spanish colonial period. Built in 1635 and stands for almost 4 centuries is acclaimed to be the oldest structure and a major landmark in Zamboanga City, Philippines.

This former Spanish garrison also houses the National Museum were you can look back and appreciate the magnificent past of Zamboanga. You will also find in the museum natural marine life, antiques, and cultural records of the earlier days of Zamboanga as a Spanish City of the South.

On the upper portion of the fort’s east wall engraved the image of Nuestra Señora La Virgen del Pilar (Our Lady of the Pillar) and is now an open Catholic Shrine and the patroness of Zamboanga City. The feast of Our Lady of the Pillar is celebrated every 12th of October.

Zamboangueños (people of Zamboanga) speak "Chavacano" which is 70% Spanish and 30% mixture of Tagalog Cebuano and other dialects, hence Zamboanga City is called the Latin City of Asia.

This is "My World on Tuesday" my hometown, Zamboanga City.

It's the last Monday of calendar year 2009 and I'm back on my office desk again. I just had my first report for the day and before continuing the rest of the lined-up reports I'll take a break first and post something for Mondays.

Mondays are meme's day for Mellow Yellow and Macro Monday. So here's my entry for today, a yellow flower bud, very common and can be found anywhere and crap I don't know what the name is (oopps! sorry). Anyway I need to do some research later and hope I can come back and edit (hopefully! lol!).

Yellow Cosmos Flower

  January Zelene       2:43 AM       Flower 101 , Nature Photography , Today's Flower , Yellow       9 comments

It's the last Sunday of the year today. And as a parting gift for 2009 I have a yellow cosmos flower that I have photographed near Maria Cristina Falls, Iligan City.

Cosmos are herbaceous perennial plants that grows up to 2 meter tall. It has leaves that are feather-like or pinnate arranged in opposite pairs with flowers are produced in a capitulum or inflorescence with a ring of broad ray florets and a center of disc florets.

(source: wikipedia)

I played with curves on photoshop to achieve a crisp edge.

HAPPY NEW YEAR FRIENDS!

Check out more flowers @ Today's Flowers and thanks to

First of all I want to greet my elder brother Joel a very happy birthday and may he always have good health and God fearing life.

Merry Christmas Everyone!

I won't be posting a SkyWatch Friday for today because it's Christmas instead, I made a digiscrapbook from last night's celebration. My elder brother and his family arrived around 3pm yesterday to celebrate with us their first Christmas here in Iligan City. We had a medium size lechon (roasted pig) for noche buena, pancit, bread and few more dishes.

Bohol: St. Agustine Church of Panglao Island

January Zelene       7:46 PM       bohol , Bohol Churches , Churches , Monochrome Weekly , panglao island , Structure and Architecture       5 comments

I'm a little late for Monochrome Weekly, but the saying goes better late than never right? So here it is, one of the oldest churches in Bohol, Philippines, The Panglao Church or the Saint Augustine Church.

According to history Rev. Fr. Valentin Utande started building the church in 1894 until 1897 but was put to stop because of his transfer to other Parish. In1898 the construction was continued by 2 Spanish Priests but was abandoned when the Filipino-Spanish revolution begun.

In 1912 through the help of church leaders, reidents of Panglao with Rev. Fr. Emiliano Veloso as Parish Priest the construction has continued and in 1924 even the church was still unfinished an inuaguration was held on August 31, 1924.

Saint Augustine Church is located on the southwestern side of Panglao Island just 18 kilometers away from Tagbilaran City, Bohol's Capital City.

On Holiday Again

January Zelene       6:45 AM       Personal       3 comments

Although Iligan City is not under Autonomous Region on Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) but everytime a Muslim Holiday is declared our City is enjoying it too, just like today, we had another off from work on a Friday.

And since it's a holiday I had my final 3-hour lesson at Sunrise Driving School. Today together with my instructor we reviewed everything he taught me the past days and I guess I'm a certified driver now and ready to take the road all by myself (cross fingers). Yipppeee!

*****

I'll be off from blogging too for a couple of days because my hubby and I, together with our barkadas (friends) we will have our Christmas outing tomorrow at Cagayan de Oro City.

Be Back on Sunday Night!

LP 84 Paskong Pinoy

January Zelene       7:47 PM       Christmas , Litratong Pinoy , Nightscape       4 comments

Iligan City: The Majestic Maria Cristina Falls

January Zelene       4:12 PM       Iligan City , Nature Photography , Outdoor Wednesday , waterfalls , Watery Wednesday       20 comments

On my first post for Watery Wednesday I mentioned about the famous landmark in Iligan City, the Maria Cristina Falls. Today as promised I'll be giving you the latest photo of the said Majestic Falls which I have taken on November 30, 2009.

Towering 320 feet high the Maria Cristina Falls is the second highest waterfalls in the Philippines and can be found along the Agus River. The 90% of the water before flowing into the falls is utilized by NPC’s Agus VI Hydro Electric Plant or The Maria Cristina Hydro Electric Plant one of the base load power generator in Mindanao.

Maria Cristina Falls is sometimes called the “twin falls” because the water flow is separated by a rock at the edge of the water fall.

Before going I’ll share to you a Filipino Tale of the Maria Cristina Falls that I have read on the Freeweb, Publish Post here it is:

The Tale: How Maria Cristina Falls got its name

There were two beautiful sisters named Maria (the younger) and Cristina (the elder) living near the falls where Indarapata’s irrigation system is located. They love each other very much to the extent that Maria gave everything she have to Cristina. They also loved their neighbor as they loved themselves.

Since Maria & Cristina are good-looking and attractive maidens, many Datus & Sultans came to ask for their hands in marriage, but the sisters refused. However, there was an unhappy son of a famous Sultan living somewhere nearby Lake Lanao .He couldn't find find the girl that he really loved. He traveled around the lake until he saw the two maidens of the falls. He fell in love with the Maria and Cristina but the two sisters did not know whom he really loved. Days have passed and Maria realized that she loved the son of the sultan very much, which made her very sad and she went to the top of the falls and jumped. When Cristina her sister, found out that Maria was dead, she likewise went to the top of the falls and tossed herself down the deep ravine.

When the handsome young man discovered what happened and found the dead bodies, he buried them carefully under the falls and never married until he also died. He named the falls, Maria Cristina, after the two sisters he loved.

That’s the story it’s up to you to believe it or not!

Note: If you want to visit this majestic tourist destination, make it on weekends because you won’t be seeing water flowing during weekdays, because the hydro plant manually controls the flow of water. Viewing days are scheduled usually on Saturdays and Sundays.

Have A Nice Day!

My World # 1 - From a Hotel's Window

January Zelene       5:37 PM       Cebu , Landscape , My World on Tuesday , Nightscape       7 comments

On my last week business travel to Cebu City, I stayed at Cebu Midtown Hotel just above Robinsons Mall along Fuente Osmeña. My room was on the 7th floor so I had a view of the Rotonda below. This time I brought my DSLR camera with me because my point and shoot camera was confiscated by my brother (hope he'll return it soon..lol).

I had a view on this part of Cebu City at early morning and at night.

Here they are my first entry for That's My World Tuesday...
