No more stopover during our return trip instead along Calinan Highway just to buy durian, lanzones and mangosteen for pasalubong.
4 Short Stops Along Bukidnon - Davao City Road
I can’t remember the last time I travelled
to Davao City using one of our service vehicles. Every time I am tasked to
attend a meeting in Davao City, I always take the fastest means of
transportation, the airplane.
But because my supervisor doesn’t want to take
the ATR 72-500 Cebu Pacific aircraft, we requested for an available service
vehicle to take us to Davao City on October 7, 2015. A Nissan pick-up was given
to us, just enough for 3 passengers.
Some parts of the Bukidnon highway
are undergoing repair, that means the traffic in the area is very unpredictable. Hence, we
decided to start our journey from the home base Cagayan de Oro City to the
“Durian Capital” of the Philippines as early as 7 in the morning.
Fortunately, the vehicle flow along the
areas of Mangima, Bukidnon was very smooth, that is why by 10:30AM we already
had our early lunch at Jollibee Valencia.
Since we were ahead of schedule, we have so
much time for some side trips along the way. Our first stop was...
The Overview Park
Located at Kipolot, Palapacao, Quezon,
Bukidnon. As the name of the park implied, it is the best
area overlooking the beautiful landscape of Bukidnon. Enhanced with big statues
of indigenous people plus the cool fresh air, the park indeed is a best place
to relax and unwind.
The Over View Park is located along the
national highway, thus if you are travelling from Cagayan de Oro - Quezon,
Bukidnon to Davao City route, pulling-over and taking a few minutes in the area
is very convenient.
Don't forget to buy one of souvenirs sold at P35.00 each.
The Giant Philippine Eagle Statue
I have seen photos in my friends FB
accounts, and I have wished to take the same photo with this gigantic eagle
statue. Thus, when my supervisor decided to travel by land, I was so excited
because finally I’ll get the chance to have the photo shoot.
The Giant Philippine Eagle Statue located
at Barangay Baganihan, Marilog Distract, Davao is an astounding work of art by
a Mindanao based artist Kublai Millan, is a must see sight. It serves as the
landmark signifying the entrance to the safest city in the country Davao City.
So if you are travelling along BuDa
(Bukidnon-Davao route) make sure to pull-over and have your photo taken with
the giant Philippine Eagle.
We already started this so called road
trip, so, why not make the most out of
it (lubus lubusin na at sulitin). So our next destination is the…
The Philippine Eagle Center
We took time to visit and see up close the
majestic Philippine Eagles housed in the conservatory and breeding facility
center at Malagos, Baguio District, Davao City, about 500meter from the Calinan
Highway.
At P150.00 entrance, you’ll get to explore
the place and learn about the mighty king of the sky yet endangered Philippine
Eagle and some of owls, the crocodile, etc.
Seems to be an expensive entrance fee,
yet the P150 we pay will help save, protect and conserve our national bird and
its habitat.
Fruits Along Calinan
Davao City is also known for its fruit
abundance. One of the must taste fruit aside from durian is the Longkong Lanzones.
Originated from Thailand, it is one the sweetest lanzones we can ever eat aside
from the Camiguin lanzones. Longkong lanzones were abundant last month and
already very minimal these days. We were lucky to find one vendor selling the
variety along Calinan, Highway.
We bought 5 kilos at P20/kilo and enjoyed
eating in the car until we reached our booked hotel The Park Inn by Radisson at
SM Lanang.
That was our road trip from Cagayan de Oro
to Davao City.
No more stopover during our return trip instead along Calinan Highway just to buy durian, lanzones and mangosteen for pasalubong.

Thank you for taking time reading my adventure..stay tuned for more photos per stopover. :-)
I believe this is what they call BUDA. We passed here back in 2008 going to Ozamis City pero I don't think I visited any of these places, direcho lang kasi ang biyahe namin. Pero BUDA is a really nice place!
ReplyDeleteI want to visit Davao, this is one of the place in my travel lists :-)
