A Trip to Saging Repablik, Davao City

January Zelene       5:54 AM       Davao City , Food , Food and Travel , Restaurant , Travel Destination       12 comments

I have mentioned in my previous post about our food tripping in the land of the bananas, the Saging Repablik in Davao City.

Instead of taking a cab from Casa Leticia, Sir Jay (our colleague in Davao City) offered to take us to our next adventure, to the land of the bananas, a unique diner featuring saging (bananas) in their menu.

Located at Tionko Ave. corner V. Mapa St., Saging Repablik is very easy to find considering the black greasy unique looking building and the big signage in color green, just like those found in highways.

As expected, the place also sells my favourite afternoon snacks, the banana cue that are usually bought at the streets. But in Saging Repablik, the once ordinary snack is transformed into something unique and inviting.  At P55.00 you can create your own banana cue by following these simple steps.

We wanted to try the three dippings, thus we made our 3 versions of the banana cue.
1. banana cue dipped in chocolate with sprinkled rice crispies, candy sprinkles and white chocolate chips.
2. banana cue dipped in white chocolate, sprinkled with marshmallows, chocolate chips and candy sprinkles.

3. and banana cue dipped in caramel sprinkled with marshmallows, chocolate chips and choco candies.

Just to satisfy our curiosity what gigingka is, we ordered gigingka gamay (small) with walnut and gigingka red velvet gamay (small) with cream cheese frosting at P75.00 each.

Fresh mango ripe juice and sweet lemonsito juice were our chosen drinks to complete our afternoon snacks.

While, waiting for our orders to be served, I checked out their displayed cakes and pastries and took some snaps. They look so delicious and mouth-watering, but I hesitated ordering one. Sobra na sugar intake hehehe

There are also a lot of souvenir items and t-shirts for sale, but just too pricey for me. Hmmmm, if I spotted a ref magnet, I probably got one if it meets my budget.

The moment our meals, were placed on the table, first thing first is to take not just one but a lot of photographs. Moments like this reminds me to take with me the DSLR most of the time, but since I don’t have it, I tried taking the best shots that my smartphone is capable of and uploaded on my Instagram account.

Done with the meeting. It's time to #foodtripping with @saimaaragrev at the Saging Repablik #davaocity #travel

The dippings and the toppings really elevated the banana cue to the next level, recommendable, considering it’s the cheapest in their menu. The gigingkas on the other hand were also tasty but, with less banana feeling (I wasn’t able to taste the banana, or there is problem with my taste buds).

Overall, our more than an hour “monkey business” at Saging Repablik was definitely worth the time and money.

I am looking forward to visit the place again, next time I am in the city. And by that time, I’ll definitely try the best sellers in their long list of menu.
